Cononley Singers

Community Choir

The Cononley Singers was formed in March 2010 when a group of villagers got together with the intention of starting some sort of singing group. Following a modest start, the choir grew steadily in both number and musical expertise and currently numbers around 50, male and female, with a wide range in both ages, and musical ability.

The choir usually gives two major concerts each year, in Summer and at Christmas and tries to produce a wide and varied programme, ranging from classical choral favourites to more modern ‘pop’ songs, which it hopes will give its audience much pleasure, as well as satisfying and stretching the musical talents of its members. In addition, the Cononley Singers are always on the lookout for new performance possibilities at other times of the year and at different venues. In recent years the choir has produced a number of Spring concerts in aid of local charities and is keen to develop this type of engagement.

The key factor in the choir’s progress has been to combine the performance aspect, which continues to improve and develop, with the friendship and enjoyment which comes from making music. For many of the choir members, this has been a new and highly rewarding experience.

Rehearsals take place each Wednesday evening between September and July at Cononley Institute, Main Street Cononley, between 7.45.pm and 9.45 pm.
